Charcoal and Biochar Making Workshop - Saturday 17th July 2021
We are delighted to welcome James Hookway to Alderfen Marshes to share his experience and expertise in making charcoal and biochar using the Hookway retort. Charcoal retorts provide an extremely efficient and environmentally friendly way to create charcoal and the biochar kiln offers an excellent way to convert large amounts of waste brash into biochar.
Share the day with James on Alderfen Marshes where we will explore the ins and outs of charcoal making. During this interactive and experiential session you will have the chance to get hands-on with the charcoal making process with the opportunity to learn useful techniques and ask questions to the expert.
During the day James will share:
- The art and science of charcoal making
- Different uses for charcoal and biochar
- Loading and firing the retort and biochar burner
- Selecting, preparing and storing wood for making charcoal
